I am also known as "Kelly." and I've been teaching at City College of San Francisco since 2001. I will be giving sewing instructions at Honey Art Studio on August 9 & 10. Hope you can join us!
As a business owner and the founder of Artist Development/Imagemaking established in 1988, I enjoy helping people “be their best, by looking and feeling their best in body and spirit." I work from the inside out by assisting my clients in valuing their self-worth which is the foundation of their outward appearance. For more than a decade, I have also been an independent consultant with BeautiControl Cosmetics. Come visit my page at www.beautipage.com/bc_kelly
I have also been on the hiring committee with CCSF Fashion Department since 2004. I am on San Francisco State University’s Hospitality Management Advisory Board and chairs the PR Committee. I have previously served on the Board of Governors with the Recording Academy, created and co-chaired the Urban Outreach Committee of the Recording Academy (a.k.a. The Grammys) and was an inaugural member of KQED’s Community Advisory Panel.
I am a 34 year old first generation Costa Rican American, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have made art for as long as I can remember and was the only career I wanted to pursue when I was a child. As I grew older I kept dabbling more and more in modern art techniques after having tried traditional mediums throughout middle school, high school and into college, I was constantly asking myself "what else is there".
At the age of 25, I found pyrography by trying to make the impression of a stencil on a piece of wood as a unconventional medium.
In an age where 3D printing and laser cutting is prolific, I see more personality in making art by hand. In contrast, the San Francisco Bay Area where I grew up and Costa Rica the country which my parents were raised in, have become havens and prolific in the most modern technology in the world.
I have chosen to keep alive antiqued techniques by recreating them for a modern age in my own way. I could just be making things harder on myself by doing everything by hand but it's hard to argue when the results are one-of-a-kind pieces that have true depth and character built into every detail of every millimeter of work.
I am happy to share my lifetime of knowledge on top of 9 years experience of wood burning with my new pupils!
I am a graphic designer and traditional animation student in San Francisco. I received my Bachelor's Degree from Universidad Tecnológica de Guadalajara (UTEG,) a university in Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. I am working on getting my Masters at the Academy of Art University. I worked 2 years in Mexico in the scrapbook world giving classes of how to use scrapbook tools until I took the risk of pursuing my dream career in animation. I am currently residing in San Francisco.
You can see some of the work I've collaborated with in my previous work's Instagram account. We can definitely explore some of the art forms I helped created. Looking forward to the summer art classes.
"Every child is an artist! It is how to remain one once you grow up," quoted by Picasso.
This is a true statement. As kids, we loved creating, drawing, doodling, etc. And then we stopped, or were never encouraged as we got older. I say one should stay creative all the days of his/her life. It makes life more "colorful"!
I'm excited to share with you (young and old) making quality art out of found objects. Upcycling and repurposing materials are not only eco-friendly, but can be useful. wearable, and beautiful. You'll learn to see something old or "no use for" become something new and artful. We will be repurposing items that are otherwise neglected or just thrown away.
Another project I want to share is Zentagling. It's a relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. This can be done on any material (denim, canvas, leather, wood, etc.) I usually zentangle on canvas bags and/or denims.
Quick background about me. I have 3 grown kids who happen to be all creative beings themselves. I met my husband in a graphic design class. I did photography, wedding/event planning but I am almost always more gravitated towards repurposing handmade & handcrafting items anywhere. Thus I sew, I craft, I crochet, I art. THAT IS, of course, when time allows me to do so. I work as a kids ministry admin assistant.
Here's an 11x14 mixed media self-portrait I created for an art show last year. I used patched denim as my canvas with black & white permanent markers, acrylic paint, magazine cut-outs, beads, yarn, etc. We can make self-portraits like this in class, as well.
Can't wait to create with you all.
Here's my craft/sewing blog. I need to add more posts =.) Happy ARTing!
